Teaching vs. Education

You know, I really enjoy teaching....

It's the other stuff in education that I dislike at times...

For instance, today was another drop-in evaluation from my district high school math coordinator. I think that we are "evaluated" too much sometimes. It is disruptive and not helpful...But I digress.

Let me set the stage here. We just gave the TAKS (TX Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) then entire school day on Tuesday. I am really behind in A-day classes because we missed that entire day of instruction.

Let me also add that today is an A-day. A-days and more particularly 1st period give me stress. Today was no different. Of course, with us being behind and kids anxious in anticipation of spring break and not seeing them for a week, the class was not really good.

My evaluator stayed for 10 minutes and gave me a little bit of a harsh evaluation, in my opinion.

Anyway, this year has been so difficult for me. In fact, this year has been my most difficult of my career for multiple reasons. I have too much on my plate and the simplest of things can set me off.

Today was one of those days when many of the simplest things discouraged me.

Here's to hoping that tomorrow is better....It's gotta be.

  1. I agree - evaluations have too much weight as far as teaching. Hang in there, the year's nearing an end and you can have a fresh start in the fall. Enjoy the time you have - you're kids are getting a fantastic education (at least in math) because of you and your dedication. Do you want to trade for a couple of weeks? Kindergarteners are a blast!!

  2. Don't be so hard on yourself..Those who really know you, know that you are a well qualified, awesome teacher (just ask your students)

    ...this, too shall pass

    love ya, Mom

  3. Boy does this sound familiar. I heard just the other day..."I love teaching. I hate education." I'm so sorry this happened. {{{Suzanne}}}
